ABSTRACT

This seminar chronicles the life of a small optical MEMS startup company that spawned from the BSAC and Microlab/Nanolab ecosystem. From business-plan competitions to developing sales channels and product development to customer support, this presentation will show the successes and lessons learned. It will describe the long journey from nascent ideas that turned into products to eventually closing the doors and moving on to new challenges.


BIO INFO

Michael Helmbrecht is the Director of MEMS Technology at AEye, Inc. where he works on integrating MEMS mirrors into automotive LiDAR systems. His team develops electronics hardware and firmware to control the MEMS mirrors and the entire LiDAR system. Prior to AEye, Michael was an Associate at AMFitzgerald & Associates where he focused on MEMS Product Development and Manufacturing. At the start of his career he founded Iris AO, Inc. and ran it for 16 years. Michael received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He has 7 awarded patents and written many conference publications on work at Iris AO.
