BSAC Seminar: Sensor Fusion Solutions for Inertial-Based Motion Tracking

October 27, 2015

Dr. Giovanni Bellusci

Lead Engineer, Motion Tracking Solutions, Xsens Technologies, The Netherlands
October 27, 2015 | 12:00 to 01:00 | 540 Cory Hall
Host: John Huggins

Potentials offered by sensor fusion algorithms to mitigate most common errors in MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes when used for orientation and position tracking will be discussed. The 3D body motion capture solutions developed by Xsens Technologies in the last decade will serve as detailed examples to illustrate how the use of advanced algorithms and signal processing techniques, together with knowledge of application and system requirements, can enable highly accurate motion tracking applications with low-power, inexpensive, miniature accelerometer and gyroscope sensors available today in the market. In this way, consumer-grade MEMS devices, so far used only for screen rotation or simple step counting algorithms, can be used to fully capture the rich quantitative information in human motion.
