Switzerland has an amazingly dynamic and fruitful startup scene. During the past 5 years, about 100,000 (!) companies have been founded in Switzerland. Since 2011, a consortium of 100 experts selects every year the top 100 startups out of these 100,000. The 2012 selection was published at the end of October (www.startup.ch). In this talk, I will relate to this ranking by giving a short introduction to the Swiss startup scene and at the same time highlight a few elements that have contributed to the dynamics in the startup scene in recent years, particularly in the high-tech sector. A second part of the talk is dedicated to a personal selection of high-tech companies that have been founded in the past few years in Switzerland, with a focus on products and technology.
