Advances in opto-mechatronics, microsystems and micro- and nano-optics have led to a rapid development of new types of photonic components, and one of the most exciting new developments is that of inherent tunability. We will present some of the technologies and devices being employed for the fabrication of tunable micro-optics and photonics, including liquid lenses, deformable lenses, tunable achromatic compound lenses, micro-fluidic shutters and irises, thermo-pneumatic lenses and tunable diffractive and plasmonic optics.
